Afghan Landraces – New Accessions

Newly collected cannabis landrace accessions direct from Afghanistan – all of which I’ve lumped into the Hindu Kush section, despite a couple being collected from just beyond the Hindu Kush:

Panjshir

Helmand

Nangarhar

Mazar-i-Sharif #2

The image shows our 2007 accession of the landrace Afghan farmers know as Mazar-i-Sharif, Mazari, or Balkhi. The plant show is outdoors in Spain and exhibits pink stigmas, a trait closely associated with the Hindu Kush region.

And lastly a confession – I used the name ‘Balkhi’ for an accession collected in 2019 from a farmer based just outside the town of Balkh, but the accession turned out not to be the large landrace that Afghans themselves call ‘Balkhi’.
