How to germinate landrace seeds

Where legal, to get the best germination rates when germinating landrace cannabis seeds, follow these simple steps:

(1) Presoak seeds in 1% peroxide solution for approx. 12 hours.

All cannabis seeds – but especially landrace seeds direct from regions such as Laos, Nepal, or Afghanistan – need to be sterilized to remove any fungal, bacterial, or fungus-like pathogens outside or inside the seeds.

Here are two studies demonstrating that the best method is 1% peroxide for approx. 12 hours:

(2) Place seeds in moist, fresh, and sterile Seed Compost.

Seed composts are formulated specifically for germinating seeds and growing seedlings and cuttings.

Crucial qualities of Seed Compost are good drainage and relatively mild levels of NPK.

Excessively high NPK levels such as in cannabis compost blends or living soil will often adversely affect seeds and seedlings, sometimes killing them.

(3) Ensure the conditions are very warm (+25 °C).

Cool conditions encourage Damping Off pathogens.

Midday temperatures during sowing season in regions such as Afghanistan, the Himalaya, or Thailand can range from 35° to 45° C.

(4) Ensure the area has excellent ventilation.

Stagnant and humid conditons encourage Damping Off pathogens. Avoid using humidity domes!

***

When germinating indoors, all plant species are susceptible to Damping Off pathogens.

Cannabis is very susceptible, probably because it evolved in a dry, windy environment on the Central Asian steppe.
